Hands On Literacy with EHDI funding

EHDI funding doesn’t spend itself! We detail how three of Nevada Chapter’s Guide By Your Side projects help families maximize language acquisition/development for children who are DHH. Our lending library provides a wide range of materials, instructional books for parents, age-appropriate books for children and activities for families and staff to use together. Our virtual “Growing Book by Book” meetings vary in monthly topic to expose families to diverse perspectives and communication choices. In-person events, such as Reading Week and Back-to-School events can be themed around accessible literature to promote a love of reading and to show how one book can be adapted for multiple audiences.

  • The participant will differentiate lending library content for diverse populations and users
  • The participant will be able to create virtual support options that support age-appropriate language outcomes.
  • The participant will name two ways to promote literacy at in-person events.
