Perspective and Practical tips for Parents, Educators, and Professionals for Daycare & PreSchool

Understanding the perspectives of the parent, teacher, and service provider can help ease the transition when a child who is deaf or hard of hearing enters daycare or preschool. It will take a collaborative effort of the parent, the daycare/preschool provider, and professional service providers to help each other understand how to maximize the child’s language, social, and emotional benefits. Writing goals and using tools to help the child who is deaf or hard of hearing to reach their full potential is an essential part of this process. Handouts, tip sheets, and other resources will be provided to use as a supplement when working together in planning for the child.

  • The participant will be able to identify the perspectives of the parent, the daycare/preschool provider, and the professional service provider.
  • The participant will list 2 goals for maximizing the child’s language, social, and/or emotional benefits
  • The participants will be able to identify tools that can be used to help with collaboration when writing goals for the child.

Presenters/Authors

Danna Crook (), Arkansas Hands & Voices, danna.gbys@arhandsandvoices.org;
Hello, I am Danna Crook. My perspectives of hearing loss come in many forms: I was a child with a hearing loss (now adult), my father was deaf, my sibling is DHH, I have a child who is DHH, and I have 20+ years of being a SPED and Regular Ed Teacher. My involvement with Arkansas Hands & Voices as a DHH Guide, Parent Guide, and ASTra Advocate are invaluable in helping other families navigate the journey with children who are deaf or hard of hearing.
